The 10th edition of the Contemporary Studies Conference will focus on material alterations—both intentional and unintentional—linked to artistic practices. Specifically, the event aims to shed light on the challenges of preserving and restoring artworks that, due to natural or deliberate material transformations, have undergone modifications over time.

These alterations can result from multiple factors, including:

• The inherent effects of specific artistic techniques

• The modification of ready-made materials by artists

• The combination of different materials within a single work

• The unpredictable long-term behavior of newly introduced materials

• Manufacturer-driven changes in material composition over time
